Theatre Yes presents THE MERCY SEAT by NEIL LABUTE

How Far Would You Go For a Chance to Start Again?

Dateline 9/11. Ben Harcourt should be dead. Instead of going to his meeting at the Twin Towers, he stopped for a tryst with his lover Abby Prescott. Now trapped in her stylish New York loft, the two plot the future together while Ben’s wife and kids wait at home worried sick.

If only his damned cell phone would stop ringing. Abby wants him to come clean and answer it.  Ben has other plans! His apparent death is a chance to write a happy ending to their affair — no fuss, muss or ugly divorce. Ben can play dead and be a hero to his kids.  He and Abby can run off to a new life together. Or can they?

Theatre Yes presents the Edmonton Premier of The Mercy Seat by Neil Labute, award-winning writer for stage and screen. Melding the blistering pace of TV cop drama with the intense heat of fearless live theatre, Labute holds a pitiless mirror to the dark, selfish face of humanity in a brutal act of domestic terror that strikes ground zero in the war of the sexes.  Expect collateral damage!

The Mercy Seat features Julie Golosky and Matt Kloster. Directed by Heather Inglis.  Design by Brian Bast, sound by Dale Ladouceur and stage managed by Susannah Murphy.  Tickets available at Tix On the Square 420-1757.
