May Week Labour Arts Festival

The goal of the Edmonton May Week Festival is to educate and inspire Edmontonians to work for positive change in their workplaces and communities by acknowledging our struggles and celebrating our gains as working people.

The festival is built around the May Day March on May 1st, the day chosen by workers to acknowledge the efforts and celebrate the gains they have made throughout history. As workers, we must recognize and commemorate May Day not only for its historical significance, but also as a time to organize and speak out around issues that are impacting working-class people today. The March has historically been an opportunity for people to take to the streets and show their commitment to fairness, justice and respect in and outside of the workplace. In this spirit, this years March will provide a forum for the public disapproval and resistance to the Alberta Governments plan for “third way” health care reforms.

In addition to the March, everyone is encouraged to support the festival by attending other May Week events.  Visit http://www.mayweek.ab.ca for more information.
